Assignment.1 Alex Crooks

Alex Crooks

What is your earliest memory of reading?

I can remember in 3rd grade or so I loved Library day. The teacher would let us loose and I would romp around, searching for a good book, reading the description on a series of books before selecting one.

Who read to you? Did they read to you often?

Lol.... well.... no one really, I had a few teachers who read aloud to us, but it was not often.

What was your favorite book as a child?

Encyclopedia Brown

Did you ever discover, love, and devour an entire series of books?

Yup, Encyclopedia Brown and the boxcar children series.

Did you like to read as a child?

Very much so, I had an extensive library by the time I was 10.

Was reading a joy or a struggle?

I loved it, even when very young I would listen to those read along records.... "When you hear the sound of this tone turn the page."

Did your teachers read aloud regularly? What books did they read?

Not regularly, I can not recall a specific book.

Did a book ever make a difference in your life?

C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity"

Do you choose to read for pleasure now?

Yes, quite a bit.

  2. Hurray Boxcar Children! I remember going to the library and for about three months straight I would race to get the same book over and over. I was that kid at the library who sat by herself, repetitively reading a book about the human body.

  3. I loved going to the library too. I remember our librarian used to give us cookies while she read a book out loud to us. The trip to the library must have been the most exciting aspect of school for me.

  4. I forgot about the read-along books. Every week at Brendle's in Hickory I would get a new one. Aladdin was my favorite!
