Assignment 1

What is your earliest memory of reading?

My earliest memory of reading has to be when I learned to read in kindergarten. Ever since then, I have loved reading. Books have always been a great escape for me.

Who read to you?

My mom and my grandmother read to me when I was very young, probably since I was around 2 years old. They would constantly read bedtime stories to me and when I was a few years older they would read me books that were too hard for me to read at that point.

What was your favorite book as a child?

My favorite book when I was a child was called Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. I thought that book was so entertaining and it is still one of my favorites. Another one I always loved was Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. It is a collection of goofy poems and I checked it out constantly from the library.

Did you ever discover, love, and devour an entire series of books?

I have read and fallen in love with 2 different book series. The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer is one of them. I was reluctant to read them at first, but once I started them, I could not put them down. Another is the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I had the same experience I had with the Twilight Saga with these books. I could not stop reading them. I have read each of these multiple times because I love them so much.

What did you like to read as a child? Was reading a joy or a struggling?

I always loved reading as a child. The books that I always gravitated towards were very funny and witty. I liked books that kept me entertained with unique characters. I loved reading until I had to do Accelerated Reading in middle school, and then it became a struggle for me because I felt like A.R. took all of the fun out of reading for me because it became more of a chore rather than a form of entertainment.

Did your teachers read aloud regularly? What books did they read?

My teachers constantly read books to me in class. They also encouraged us to read aloud in class as well. The type of books they read were usually very descriptive and entertaining so that we would really pay attention to the story being told.

Did a book ever make a difference in your life?

2 books have impacted my life in a major way. One is called A Child Called It by David Pelzer. It was very hard to read because you feel so many emotions while reading it and it makes you feel very fortunate about things and people that you have in your life that you make not appreciate as much as you should. Another is called 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper. This book really increased my sense of faith and belief. It was a very inspiring story to read.

Do you choose to read for pleasure now?

Yes. I read constantly because I find it very relaxing and insightful.

  1. I have to agree 90 Minutes in Heaven is a great book. The story stops and makes you think about the frailty of life.

  5. I have not read 90 minutes in Heaven, but I think I will look into it when I get a chance. A really good book it Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. He also has a good book called Tuesdays With Morrie. Buth books are very touching and will probably bring tears to your eyes. If you like series that are funny and if you don't mind some cursing then you should look into the Janet Evanovich books By the Numbers Series. The first one is One for the Money. It is about a woman named Stephanie Plum who used to buy merchandise for a clothing store. She lost her job and has now went to work for her cousin as a bounty hunter. She makes new friends and meets new people. Her grandmother is worth reading the book because she does crazy things. But stephanie gets her self in crazy situations. She has more than one love interest and a new best friend who used to be a prostitute. I usually skip over the curse words there are not a lot. It is definately witty and hilarious.
