I am lonely,
belonging to no one
nameless but hoping
haven't eaten in days.
Smelled food and came running,
and seem to be in trouble.
I am in trouble,
there's a man who is angry.
But there is a little girl here,
who seems to be friendly.
I am friendly,
smiling at my friend.
even though she bathed me,
and made me get clean.
I am clean,
and smell much better.
Feeling much better,
perhaps I belong?
At last I belong,
to a girl named Opal.
She takes me with her,
to shop and to church.
I go everywhere,
belong to everyone.
I listen and am loved
I at last have a name.
I Am Winn-Dixie

I wrote about the dog too. I just thought he kind of tied the whole story together so I wanted to write a poem from his perspective.
ReplyDeleteWow, I really like this poem. It's very cool to see how you tied each stanza to the next with your word choices. To me this isn't just a poem it rounds together like a story, awesome job!
ReplyDeleteLove this poem as well as your I poem. I like how the nameless creature who belongs to no one becomes a soul with a name who belongs to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI love your version of Winn Dixie's journey... from being nothing to anyone to being everything to someone :]
