"The children turned around in surprise. Someone was standing in the doorway: A woman in a thick winter coat, holding a hunting rifle under one arm. "I do beg your pardon," Signora Ida Spavento said, pointing the gun at Riccio, who was standing closest to her. "I don't quite recall having invited you."
When I sat down to do this assignment after reading the book this section stood out. This was such a tense moment. At one time or another we have all been caught doing something that we weren't supposed to be doing. It's a terrible thing to think you are getting away with something until right up to the very end only to get 'found out'. Finally after everything the crew of kids had went through, for example finding out about Scipio, they had found the wing. They had completed the job and just had to deliver it. Now the owner of the house had caught them and it was over. They were busted. How scary it must have been for Prosper or Hornet knowing that they and their friends were a bunch of tresspassing theives and then having the house owner turn a gun on them. I would have peed in my pants. However she turned out to be a compasionate and interesting woman who helped them and took them in when they most needed her.

I thought this was one of the funniest parts of the book. I could just imagine the look on the children's faces when they realized they were caught. I did not think it was funny that they were afraid. But I could just see their minds starting to work as they were trying to figure a way out of the situation they were in. But it was jkind of predictable. With all of the noise they were making you new they were going to get caught.
ReplyDeleteI also thought this was a very interesting and catching moment. I not only think children act before they think but also adults. I know we all have got caught doing something we weren't suppose to, but we could have stopped our selves from doing the action if we would stopped and thought about what the outcomes were first.
ReplyDeleteThis is like the big "getting caught Red-handed' It really makes me think of the times I have been caught with my hand in the metaphorical cookie jar. There is so much to say when you have been caught, but it really helps you to change from having your hand in the cookie jar to becomming a better person when you have someone who tries to understand why you stole the cookie in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the best parts in the book I think too. At first it was like 'holy crap' she has a gun pointed at us and I'm sure they all were about to pee their pants! However to me it was this wonderful turning point, she turns out to be so nice, and wants this adventure for herself. It was like they had finally found an adult that they could really trust, because at this point they still were not sure about Victor totally. I'm sure the kids were like why would she want to help us? I don't know but this to me was one of the best parts in the entire book, and one of the best turning points.
